Where community participation and on-chain identity matter. For Polkadot Decoded 2022, we developed a digital-first collectible that rewarded attendance, celebrated individuality, and lived natively on-chain.
Role: Creative Direction
Year: 2022
The Challenge
The core challenge was building an engaging memory for an IRL and digital event. Polkadot needed to reward thousands of attendees without creating a generic giveaway. At the same time, the experience had to feel special to early supporters while remaining trusteable, accessible, and aligned with Web3 values.
Strategy
The creative direction centered on a single idea: A digital community. Instead of static badges, we designed procedurally generated NFTs that became personal avatars. Each token functioned as both a POAP and a collectible—unique, expressive, and fun.
System Thinking
We designed a robust modular, generative system:
Enabling thousands of unique outcomes
Tiered rarity tied to early registration
A non-transferable NFT logic to avoid speculative practices.
Applications
The NFTs were distributed digitally during the event via unique claim codes sent by email. They lived as personal souvenirs in attendees’ wallets, acting as proof of attendance, a collectible avatar, and a shared visual language across the Polkadot Decoded community.
Impact
The project transformed a standard POAP into a meaningful on-chain keepsake. It strengthened emotional connection to the event, rewarded early supporters, and showcased Polkadot’s values through action, using NFTs not for speculation, but for identity, memory, and community belonging.
This project was developed at Parity Technologies. With the incredible 3D Designer Simon Telezhkin.
